Vote the Cell Wall! The best a organelle can be!

The Cell Wall is the best candidate for the winner of the Battle of the Organelles.

Why vote for the Cell Wall?
* The Cell Wall holds all the organelles in the cell together
* The Cell Wall protects the cell from any physical injury
* The Cell Wall keeps the right amount of water concentrated in the cell
* Without a Cell Wall the Cell wont survive!

Cell Wall Structure

The Cell wall is an abiotic secretion of the cell membrane which is made of cellulose. The Cell wall gets its strength from the cellulose fibrils deposited in the layers of the wall. The Cell wall has small openings which are called pits that make the Cell Wall totally permeable (allows liquids and gases through the wall).

The Cell Wall is very underrated organelle and does not get as much credit as the Nucleus or Mitochondria but if their is no Cell Wall their will be no Cell! Their is no point in voting for any other organelle when you know the Cell Wall is the best a organelle can be. Vote for the Cell Wall!

  1. The cell wall, in my honest opinion, is not the most important organelle in a cell, for many reasons. You say that without a cell wall, the cell wouldn't survive, but that isn't technically true. Animal cells exist without a cell wall, and they are perfectly safe. Sure, it keeps the cell rigid and secure, but animal cells are living proof that the cell wall isn't that significant.

Another reason I don't support your theory is that, though it is important, the cell wall isn't available in animal cells. To be deemed as the 'most important' organelle in the cell, it has to be either tremendously important, or available in both plant and animal cells. The cell wall fails in both of those matters.

The cell wall does protect a cell, but not nearly as much as peroxisomes do. Sure, you hold the cell straight up, but I break down dangerous toxins that threaten the cell from the inside. Again, a cell can live without a cell wall (as proven in all animal cells) but one cannot live without peroxisomes. - P. Peroxisome

    1. Dear Peroxisome. You have many valid points but you error is telling me that cell wall is not important because its only in the plant cell. If there are no plant cells, there are no animal cells. Vote the Cell Wall, the best an organelle can be!

  2. I fully agree with the peroxisome you may semi-protect the PLANT cells only but that does not make you suitable to be the best organelle. All you are capable of is keeping the shape of a plant cell and unfortunately that is not enough to protect all living things in the world for centuries to come. The reason my organelle is much better than yours is the fact that the cell wall is freely permeable, while the cell membrane is selectively permeable. Therefore my organelle deserves to run the cell, but don't worry you can be an important secretary in my office or something.

    1. My Friend , the Cell Membrane, Yes you are semi-permeable and yes i am only found in the plant cell. But that does not make me less important.Have you forgotten that my job is to protect you as well? I am Harder, Thicker, and Stronger than you. With out me the plant cell will fall apart. In my eyes no cell membrane deserves the top organelle over me. Love your superior friend, the Cell Wall.

  3. I believe that you (the cell wall) are one of the least useful organelles within a cell. I have way more to promise to my fellow organelles then to be a second line of defense when we already have on working properly. An organelle cannot be the most useful if it is not making significant benefits to the cell such as I. A lysosome is the only reason us my house (cell) is sanitary as I make it my duty to make sure that anything the makes its way in is escorted out. You just stand there like an ant waiting to be barreled over. Once you are passed there is no extra help what ever has gotten in is there and there is nobody like me to save you.

Another reason that I believe you are not the best organelle is because all animal cells are able to function without the presence of a cell wall thereby rendering it useless for some organisms. Therefore, why even bother with a Cell wall everybody should use lysosomes instead as they are much more useful.

Finallly, seeing as you said that the cell wall protects the cell from physical injury, I have been living within my cell for what seems like a life time now and I have never suffered from any sort of physical injuring from bumping or running into another cell. I find that to be another point rendered useless within your genetic make up. Perhaps you should mutate within your plant cells to become something more important like I don't know maybe a Lysosome? - Larry C. Lysosome

    1. Larry C. Lysosome ,
I don't think you understand that my absence in the animal cell has no effect on being a important organelle. Plant cells and animal cells function differently and i must be present in the plant cell . If it wasn't for me you would have nothing to protect because every other organelle wouldn't be in place. You purpose a great fight Larry C. Lysosome, but nothing a cell wall cant handle. Vote the Cell Wall, the best a organelle can be.

  5. There are many reasons why I believe the cell wall isn't the best organelle. There are many reasons for this. To start off, it's a protective layer. Cells already have the cell membrane to protect it. This is just extra cushion. It is not necessary to have it. The endoplasmic reticulum is necessary. You need a road path? Well thats what it's mainly for!

Also, this organelle is only found in one cell. It shows that it's not necessary. If it was, it would be on the animal cell too, right? It's just helping out the membrane which doesn't always need help. The endoplasmic reticulum, on the other hand, is on both cells, and it's very important because they act like the "delivery guys".

Lastly, I believe that the plant cell can live without the cell wall. If a cell can live without a certain organelle (in this case, the cell wall), can that organelle be as important as others? Like I mentioned before, it's just a protective layer and it's not needed. The endoplasmic reticulum, on the other hand is needed.

    1. Dear Endoplasmic Reticulum,
As I said before, the cell membrane is not enough to protect the cell, I am harder, thicker and stronger than the cell membrane. Another thing you must have failed to read is my presence in the plant cell is essential to all living things including animal cells. Stay classy Endoplasmic Reticulum. Vote for the Cell Wall, the best a organelle can be.

    2. You are not understanding my point. What I am trying to say is that the Cell Wall is not necessary, it's just backup. However, you need the endoplasmic reticulum to deliver protein packages.

  6. The cell wall is far from the most important organelle in a cell, of course it protects the cell and forms the plants structure but it is unnecessary. The protection of a cell can be provided by the cell membrane, it is certainly strong enough to protect the cell and other organisms. The cell wall only useful factor is to help the plant to be sturdy, even this is unnecessary because a plant can still live without being up right. A plant laying flimsy on the ground is just as good and as useful as a plant standing up tall. The cell wall should not be voted best organelle but most useless organelle.
